Why do we inform about cookies?
Within the LSSI-CE regulation (Law of the information society and electronic commerce), there is a section dedicated to the cookies that it requires, to those who have a website or a blog that downloads third-party cookies in your browser, inform the user about the type of cookies, the duration and purpose of each of them.
The fact is that this website uses its own and third-party cookies to get you to have a better browsing experience, you can share content on social networks and also to obtain statistics and browsing habits of the users of this website.
As a user, you can refuse the processing of data or information by blocking these cookies through your browser settings. But of course, you should know that if you do it, some sections of the web may not work correctly.
According to article 22.2 of Law 34/2002 on Services of the Information Society and Electronic Commerce: if you continue browsing, you will be giving your consent for the use of these cookies.
You can change your browser settings to notify you of the reception of cookies on your hard drive or disable if you want the ability to store these cookies on your hard drive.
What is a cookie?
A cookie is a file that is downloaded to your computer when accessing certain web pages or blogs.
Cookies allow that page, among other things, to store and retrieve information about your browsing habits or your equipment, and depending on the information they contain and the way you use your equipment, they can be used to recognize you.
In any case, a cookie is not a virus, nor a Trojan, nor a worm, nor spam, nor spyware, nor does it open pop-up windows.
And remember that if you do not want cookies stored in your browser or if you want to receive a notification every time a cookie requests to be installed, you can configure your browser to do so.
Most browsers allow the management of cookies in 3 different ways:
- Cookies are always rejected
- The browser asks if the user wants to install each cookie
- Cookies are always accepted
The browser may also include the possibility to specify better which cookies have to be accepted and which do not. You usually have these options:
- Reject cookies from certain domains
- Reject third-party cookies
- Accept cookies as non-persistent (they are deleted when the browser is closed)
- Allow the server to create cookies for a different domain
What information does a cookie store?
Cookies do not usually store sensitive information about you such as credit cards or bank details, photographs or personal information, etc. The data they save is technical, statistical, personal preferences, content personalization, etc.
What kind of cookies exist?
- Technical cookies: they are the most elementary and allow, among other things, to know when a human or an automated application is browsing, when an anonymous and registered user navigates, basic tasks for the operation of any dynamic website.
- Analysis cookies: collect information about the type of navigation you are doing, the sections you use most, products you consult, time zone of use, language, etc.
- Advertising cookies: show advertising based on your browsing, your country of origin, language, etc.
What are own and third-party cookies?
Own cookies are those generated by the page you are visiting and those of third parties are those generated by external services or providers such as Mailchimp, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
How to manage and disable these cookies
If you do not want websites or blogs to put any cookies on your computer, you can adapt the browser settings so that you are notified before any are downloaded.
You can also adapt the configuration so that the browser rejects all cookies, or only third-party cookies. And you can also delete any of the cookies that are already on your computer.
Keep in mind that you will have to adapt the configuration of each browser and equipment you use separately.
